Melghat is situated in the dense forest region of Satpuda Mountain under Amravati district in India. It has total of 327 villages. There is a planning to start the project with the villages of Makhla, Hatru and Bhutru, Makhla being the highest peak of the mountain range is situated at the a height of 1200 ft above sea level. Background of the Project and development context: Problems: It is estimated that more than two-thirds of the population live below the poverty line, 40% in rural and 11% in urban slum areas. Lack of education and health provisions are major factors affecting family welfare. The livelihood is totally dependent on age old methods of agricultural farming. The region has a KORKU tribe having problems like gender equality. The marginalized community also needs general-socio-economic-health awareness, as due to lack of knowledge of cleanliness for self, at home and also at the village level, there is the risk of sickness and health problems. Some Issues to be addressed: Gender Equality, Ignorance toward education, economic growth, and self help groups, superstitions, birth control, harmful traditions, poor health status, lack of health awareness and severe malnutrition. Background: To assist women and children to transform their lives, to counsel women to overcome past backgrounds, to empower the women with values, skills training and employment so they can go back into the community as independent, productive individuals. Target Group: Beneficiaries The priority target group will be women to be selected according to the established guidelines. Objectives (Project goals and project purpose) Project Goal The main focus of our proposal is to help the tribe community, eliminate the difference in the girls and boys, help and educate the community especially girls, to provide leadership training and support to young women in order to help them develop the necessary skills needed to be an active participant in their communities and to give underprivileged orphans/ at risk young females an opportunity to be part of a community and to teach them individual awareness and life lessons. It has one small rural center on the way, in a Church campus at Paratwada Tehsil that is around 50 kms from the Project location. IT will act as a sub-center. Four centers will be opened.
